The continuing care concept offers Members living in personal residences a variety of activities, services and health care, if necessary. All this is contained within a neighborhood community environment. A significant emphasis is placed on maintaining independence and an active lifestyle.

The DuBose Health Center is Medicare-certified and has 36 beds offering assisted living and skilled nursing care. Home Health Care will be available to Members living in their own residences on a fee-for-service basis. Each Member of The Cedars is entitled to 90 days of health care at the same monthly fee they are currently paying for their residence, plus the cost of two additional meals per day. After 90 days, the rate is approximately 50 percent of comparable independent facilities' rates.

Skilled care is designed to provide all necessary service to persons who do not require hospitalization but are chronically ill or need 24-hour continuous care. Assisted living is for those who require assistance with some day-to-day activities such as dressing, bathing and meals.

Within defined limits, the monthly fees and health care facility charges can be adjusted annually to account for cost increases. The cost to a Cedars Member for health care is expected to remain significantly lower than the rates charged by comparable health facilities in the area.

Located on the campus of The Cedars of Chapel Hill, the DuBose Health Center's highly trained and professional staff offers progressive rehabilitation and long term care programs. In addition, short term recuperation, respite services and home care are offered.
