Support for a lifetime is what you'll find in the extensive services of The Forest at Duke's fully licensed and Medicare-certified Health and Wellness Center. Its award-winning "neighborhood" design and "Main Street" theme provide a home-like atmosphere to meet a variety of temporary and long term care needs.
In six unique neighborhoods, assisted living, skilled nursing care, and memory support are available to Forest residents. While each neighborhood offers care specific to each resident's needs, a unified community is created.
Our Health and Wellness Center's physician services are provided through the Duke Division of Geriatric Medicine. A licensed nurse is on staff 24 hours a day. Services to residents are provided by the professional, licensed, and certified staff members of The Forest at Duke. All rooms and baths in each neighborhood of the Health and Wellness Center are private, and meals are served in each neighborhood's own comfortable dining room or, if necessary, delivered to individual rooms. A full activity calendar is provided for residents in all neighborhoods.
Physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies are available on site in a well-equipped therapy room. Assistance with filing insurance claims is available to all residents at no additional charge. An emergency call system and rapid response by trained personnel are provided throughout the entire Health and Wellness Center, Community Center, and in each residence.
Clinic
A physician from the Duke Division of Geriatric Medicine is available three half-days per week, and registered nurses are available five days per week. Routine primary health care and some laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures are provided through this in-house outpatient clinic. Hearing screening and analysis of hearing instruments are offered at no charge. Dentistry and other specialty services are available through the Clinic. Visiting companions are also an option for residents in their apartments or cottages on a short-term basis, and can be arranged at additional cost.
Assisted Living Neighborhoods
Independence is enthusiastically encouraged through our approach to assisted living. Our caring staff is available 24 hours a day to offer help with the tasks of daily living.
Spacious residential-style assisted living apartments have been insightfully designed to promote the greatest level of independence. Assisted living residences are available for those who have mild cognitive loss or require minimal assistance with activities of daily living.
Skilled Nursing Neighborhoods
For more comprehensive medical attention, short-term respite and long term skilled nursing services are provided in these neighborhoods, where all rooms and baths are also private. Skilled nursing neighborhoods provide higher levels of care for residents with greater physical or medical needs who require the services of a registered nurse.
Memory Support Neighborhoods
Caring for and fostering a meaningful life for those who are memory impaired is one of the greatest challenges facing long term care providers. The Forest at Duke has responded to this critical care need with the development of Memory Support Neighborhoods and adjacent gardens, with staff specially trained in the care of the cognitively impaired. Through consistent staffing assignments, residents and staff "live together as a family" in the neighborhood.
The Forest's three secured gardens provide a positive, aesthetically pleasing environment for residents to safely enjoy the outdoors. The gardens' walking paths provide more than just physical exercise; they allow residents opportunities to observe activities without requiring them to participate. The gardens are accessible from living areas and can be enjoyed without direct staff supervision.
